(short film) A clash of realities: should he stay or should he go ? An actual couple, Kirk Acevedo and Kerry Johnson perform (or perhaps manifest) the problems of being a couple. The story takes place between given lines and documented feelings, resulting in an oil and water mix of film and life. Winner: Best short Film (Slamdance,1997) "This film excited me with its genuine curiosity about fictional characters and what we think we're doing when we bring them to life. It's a formal...

We first discovered this project from Phil Spirito (ex-Rex, ex-Loftus and a member of Califone) in a record shop, wondering what was that homophonic band (our surname is Orseau) with a beautiful sleeve showing a bear ('orso' in Italian), a beehive and, of course, bees annoying the massive plantigrade. We became even more intrigued and interested as we explored their raw folk music, with an upfront banjo playing unusually slowly and creating a constant unease. After three albums, and especially...

Can I Get An Amen? is an audio installation that unfolds a critical perspective of perhaps the most sampled drums beat in the history of recorded music, the Amen Break. It begins with the pop track Amen Brother by 60's soul band The Winstons, and traces the transformation of their drum solo from its original context as part of a 'B' side vinyl single into its use as a key aural ingredient in contemporary cultural expression. The work attempts to bring into scrutiny the techno-utopian notion...

This short film was a test for Edison's "Kinetophone" project, the first attempt in history to record sound and moving image in synchronization. This was an experiment by William Dickson to put sound and film together either in 1894 or 1895. The inner life of an "at-risk" teenager, told in an idiosyncratic and often surreal manner. A key film by Sid Davis, who is beginning to emerge as one of the great unsung talents of educational filmmaking. Shot in working-class Inglewood, Hollywood and other parts of the Los Angeles basin.

. In the history of film, Jack Nance is the only mainstream Hollywood actor to appear in an underground fetish video. Some TV actors (Dana Plato, Jaimee Foxworth) have done porn, and a few porn stars (Traci Lords, Ginger Lynn) and fetish performers (Greta Carlson, Desi d'Angelo, aka Jasae) have done regular B-movie acting roles -- but Nance is unique. Nance starred in David Lynch's first film "Eraserhead" (1976) and did bit parts in many of his later films plus a supporting role in...

"Love is a Four Letter Word", aka The Love Girls (1966) appears to be the first full-length film to show a fetishistic sorority initiation ceremony. The hazing includes bondage, blindfolds, ice rubbing, and hard spanking with a big sorority paddle. A sexploitation gem by Bob Cresse and R. L. Frost. They specialized in harsh grindhouse "roughies", but this obscure film is more of a dark psychological study of repressed desire.
